Inside One of Canada’s Most Chilling Unsolved Murder Mysteries
In February 2008, a young real estate agent walked into a home showing that should have been routine. Instead, it became a meticulously planned trap.
Lindsay Buziak, a 24-year-old real estate agent in Victoria, British Columbia, was brutally murdered inside a vacant home she had been asked to show to prospective buyers.
The killers vanished.
More than fifteen years later, no one has been charged.
The case remains one of Canada’s most disturbing unsolved murders, surrounded by questions about motive, planning, and whether the crime was a targeted hit.
Who Was Lindsay Buziak?
Lindsay Buziak was known by friends and family as energetic, ambitious, and driven.
She had recently begun building a promising career in real estate with RE/MAX in Victoria, working hard to establish herself in a competitive market.
Those close to her say she loved her work and enjoyed meeting new clients. She was also deeply connected to her family, who remain outspoken advocates for justice in her case.
At the time of her death, Lindsay had been dating a man named Jason, whose family was well known in Victoria’s real estate community. Nothing about Lindsay’s life suggested she was in danger.
But everything changed on February 2, 2008.
The Phone Call That Set the Trap
A few days before the showing, Lindsay received a phone call from a woman with a strong accent who claimed she and her husband were looking to purchase a home in Victoria.
The woman said they were relocating from Vancouver and wanted to view a specific property in the upscale Gordon Head neighborhood of Saanich. The property was vacant. The caller requested Lindsay personally show them the home.
Something about the conversation unsettled Lindsay. She reportedly told friends and family that the situation felt strange. Still, she agreed to conduct the showing.
To feel safer, she asked her boyfriend Jason to accompany her to the neighborhood.
He agreed to wait outside.
The Last Time Lindsay Buziak Was Seen Alive
On the evening of February 2, 2008, Lindsay arrived at the property located at 1702 De Sousa Place. Jason and a friend parked nearby. They watched as a couple approached the house and entered with Lindsay already inside.
The pair appeared well dressed and formal. Witnesses described the woman as tall with blone hair and the man as well built. Once inside, the three disappeared from view. Minutes passed.
Then more time passed.
Eventually, Jason grew concerned. When he went to the door, it was locked. He forced his way inside, by having his friend go through a backdoor that was partially open.
What he discovered was horrifying.
The Brutal Murder Inside the Home
Lindsay Buziak had been stabbed to death.
The attack was violent and deliberate. Investigators later determined the killers had likely entered the house with Lindsay under the pretense of a normal showing before launching the attack.
No valuables were taken. The house itself had not been robbed. From the beginning, investigators believed the crime was not random. Instead, they suspected Lindsay had been specifically targeted.
But why?
A Murder That Appeared Carefully Planned
Investigators quickly realized the crime involved significant planning.
The killers had:
• contacted Lindsay days earlier
• chosen a vacant home
• ensured the property would be empty
• vanished before police arrived
The suspects also appeared to have used a burner phone, making it extremely difficult for investigators to trace them. Witness descriptions suggested the suspects may have been intentionally trying to appear wealthy and legitimate. Despite these clues, police struggled to identify the pair.
The Investigation Into Lindsay Buziak’s Murder
From the beginning, the investigation involved multiple agencies, including the Saanich Police Department and later assistance from the RCMP and the FBI.
Detectives examined numerous possible leads, including:
• personal relationships
• business connections
• potential drug-related theories
• possible organized crime links
Over the years, police have conducted hundreds of interviews and reviewed thousands of documents related to the case.
Yet the identities of Lindsay’s killers remain unknown.
Why Many Believe the Murder Was a Targeted Hit
Several elements of the crime have led investigators and observers to believe Lindsay’s murder was not spontaneous.
The killers appeared to know:
• Lindsay would be alone inside the home
• the property would be vacant
• the showing would provide privacy
Some analysts believe Lindsay may have been lured to the property intentionally, though whether she herself was the intended target remains debated.
Others speculate the killers may have mistaken her for someone else or were connected to individuals in her social circle.
To this day, investigators have never publicly confirmed a definitive motive.
The Family’s Fight for Justice
Lindsay Buziak’s father, Jeff Buziak, has spent years advocating for renewed investigation into the case.
He has organized annual justice marches in Victoria to keep public attention focused on the unsolved murder.
The family has also pushed for greater transparency from investigators and has called for the case to be reviewed by new authorities.
Their hope is that continued public awareness may lead someone with information to finally come forward.
New Leads and Ongoing Investigation
Even after more than fifteen years, authorities say the investigation remains active.
Police have confirmed that new tips and evidence continue to be evaluated.
In recent years, renewed media attention and investigative journalism have brought fresh scrutiny to the case, with some reports suggesting new leads may still emerge.
Despite the passage of time, investigators insist the murder of Lindsay Buziak is not considered a cold case.
